The benefits of hydroponic gardening in the classroom
Growing Together is an intergenerational program based in Winnipeg, Manitoba that connects high school students from River East Collegiate with senior residents of Donwood Manor through the joy of gardening. Below is one teacher’s experience with her classroom’s Les Verts Terrace™ indoor hydroponic garden.

On behalf of the Growing Together team, we wanted to share a brief update on our hydroponic unit—and express our heartfelt thanks. We absolutely love it! The sound of the water and the glow of the lights have created such a calming atmosphere in our classroom.
Our students have truly enjoyed observing the vegetables grow, and we’ve already harvested and tasted some of them. We’ve had several lovely snack breaks with sprouts on baguettes with cream cheese, cucumbers, and lettuce!

Just yesterday, during Parent-Teacher Interviews, we displayed the Les Verts hydroponic unit, which sparked a lot of positive conversations and interest.
Overall, we feel incredibly grateful to have this unit in our classroom. It has become a powerful learning tool and brought so much joy and engagement to our students.
Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The hydroponic garden has truly made a difference at River East Collegiate.
Sincerely,
Anita Stepaniuk
